Ward excited about Ascot after Lady Aurelia's latest gallop
Wesley Ward says he is "very excited" about Lady Aurelia's prospects of another success at Royal Ascot after the three-year-old breezed at Keeneland on Tuesday morning.
A best-priced 9-2 for the King's Stand Stakes as she bids to follow up last year's spectacular victory in the Queen Mary, Lady Aurelia went five furlongs in 1 min 02.60 sec on the Keeneland turf under work rider Julio Garcia.
She worked with stablemate Bound For Nowhere, who is set to run in the Commonwealth Cup. "She had a really, really nice breeze – very excited," said Royal Ascot regular Ward.
"We're just trying to go as easy as possible every work into the race. She already has the speed, the win, the fitness and the confidence. Just looking to keep her nice and steady. She’s doing everything beautiful."
Lady Aurelia kicked off her 2017 campaign with an impressive victory against older horses in a Listed race at Keeneland last month.
Ward's other workers on Tuesday included Royal Ascot-bound two-year-olds Fairlyland and McErin.
