Thunder Snow to continue ambitious American campaign after Met Mile third

Thunder Snow will continue his US campaign in the Grade 1 Whitney Stakes at Saratoga in August after finishing a gallant third in the Met Mile at Belmont on Saturday.

The dual Dubai World Cup winner produced a typically gutsy performance under Christophe Soumillon to finish a length behind Mitole, with McKinzie splitting the pair in second.

Trainer Saeed Bin Suroor said: "Thunder Snow ran a huge race and I'm happy with him. He was up against some of the best American milers and will improve for the race.

“We will bring him back to England and prepare him to race in America again, and we're aiming at the Whitney Stakes."

The Steve Asmussen-trained Mitole delighted his rider Ricardo Santana jnr, who said: "He's really special. He can come back, he can go in front, you can put him between horses and he always keeps trying his best."

It was also a day to remember at Belmont for trainer Chad Brown who recorded a Grade 1 treble with Rushing Fall (Just A Game Stakes), Guarana (Acorn Stakes) and Bricks And Mortar (Manhattan Stakes).

Bricks And Mortar was cut to 8-1 (from 12-1) for the Breeders' Cup Turf on the back of the one-and-a-half-length success.
