Sobetsu impresses with convincing Oaks audition – but ground could be key
It was Ballydoyle's week in the Classic trials but it has been Godolphin's weekend as Sobetsu backed up Best Solution's Derby dress rehearsal with a convincing audition of her own for the Investec Oaks.
The filly, who won her maiden by ten lengths last September, had started joint-favourite for last year's Group 1 Fillies' Mile only to finish 15 lengths behind market rival Rhododendron at Newmarket, where the ground was good to firm.
Back on a more forgiving surface at Deauville, she showed what she was capable of by scooting clear of her opponents to win the Group 1 Prix Saint-Alary by three lengths.
