Signs are good for Blessing with return to form in Meautry
Tiberian enjoys perfect Melbourne Cup prep in Grand Prix
Signs Of Blessing looked a candidate for best sprinter in Europe when he handsomely beat Profitable at Deauville in May, but things didn't go right for the Francois Rohaut-trained six-year-old in two runs at Group 1 level since.
He failed to fire behind Lady Aurelia at Ascot after a row over rehydration, before failing to relax when fifth in the Prix Maurice de Gheest three weeks ago.
But back at Deauville on Sunday Stephane Pasquier appeared much happier throughout the Group 3 Prix de Meautry and Signs Of Blessing was never headed, finishing an easy two lengths in front of Finsbury Square.
Paddy Power left Signs Of Blessing unchanged at 7-1 for the Qatar Prix de l'Abbaye, his next target.
"I think for now we'll stay near to home," said trainer Francois Rohaut. "After the Abbaye we'll be looking to go back to Hong Kong."
Long-distance travel is also on the cards for Tiberian, who got the better of Doha Dream in a tight finish to the day's feature, the Group 2 Grand Prix de Deauville, with the Charlie Appleby-trained Frontiersman disappointing in sixth.
Trainer Alain Couetil has long had the Melbourne Cup on the agenda – for which Paddy Power introduced Tiberian at 25-1 – and the five-year-old will now head to quarantine in Newmarket.
"I hesitated between this race and the Prix Foy but ultimately chose to stay here in Deauville," said Couetil. "The tickets to Australia have been booked for a while now and he'll fly on September 13."
Frontiersman looked to be struggling to follow the pace under James Doyle but still had every chance when pulled wide in the straight, but he hung left before trailing home three and three-quarter lengths adrift of the winner.
In the Group 3 Prix Quincy Attendu justified favouritism to score a third success at Group level following the 2015 Prix La Rochette and the Prix du Palais Royal here last season.
Maxime Guyon followed in the slipstream of Dicton before asking Attendu to quicken, and the horse responded to deny the renewed challenged of Wireless.
