Rouget opts for Jockey Club over Ascot trip for Brametot

Brametot will go head-to-head with Al Wukair in Sunday's Qipco-sponsored Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly, rather than be sent to take on Churchill in the St James's Palace Stakes at Ascot next month.

Jean-Claude Rouget confirmed that he would be sticking to his original plan with the son of Rajsaman after satisfying himself that Brametot had recovered from his exertions at Deauville two and a half weeks ago, where he was all out to lower the colours of Le Brivido.

The option to wait for Ascot had been raised should Brametot – in whom Al Wukair's owners Al Shaqab also have a 50 per cent stake – need extra recovery time but Rouget said on Tuesday: "I have seen what I wanted to see. Running on Sunday is the logical choice."

Gallinule Stakes winner Homesman was one of five horses taken out at the second forfeit stage, leaving Aidan O'Brien with five of the 13 remaining runners.

With Recoletos and Soleil Marin expected to be supplemented on Wednesday morning, the Jockey Club looks like attracting a field of perhaps 12 or 13 at most, with Rouget telling Jour de Galop: "The fact that we're heading for a race that will not have a plethora of runners played a part in the decision."
