Record-chasing Ricardo breaks his leg in Buenos Aires fall

Setback for rider now only 31 winners short of all-time mark for career wins

Jorge Ricardo's bid to regain the all-time world record for career victories suffered a serious blow at the weekend when Brazil's legendary jockey broke his leg in a fall at Palermo in Argentina.

Ricardo, who stands just 31 winners adrift of Russell Baze's world-record mark, is likely to be out for several months after fracturing his femur in his left leg in the second race on Saturday's card at the Buenos Aires venue.

Ricardo, who won 26 riding titles in his native Rio before moving to Argentina in 2006, left the course in an ambulance after being unseated when his mount Fran Triomphe veered into the wooden rails about 350 metres out.
