Racing set to return in South Africa on June 1 at Greyville

Racing in South Africa is set to resume on Monday after a break of more than two months.

The country's National Horseracing Authority announced on Thursday that the first meeting since the coronavirus pandemic forced the cancellation of the sport on March 27 will be an eight-race card at Greyville.

All race meetings will take place behind closed doors for at least the month of June.

The NHA announced that field sizes will be reduced to 12 runners per race aside from Pattern races, in which 14 runners will be allowed.

Jockeys will be restricted to riding in one region of their choice, while horses will also not be allowed to travel between regions except on a permanent basis.
