Pakistan Star steals the show to land second Group 1 victory
The enigmatic Pakistan Star put his best foot forward to land a second Group 1 success in the Standard Chartered Champions & Chater Cup at Sha Tin on Sunday.
The Kerm Din-owned gelding, who had gained a reputation for stopping mid-race, showed no sign of his previous misbehaviour to land the 1m4f contest by a length and three-quarters from stablemate Exultant under jockey Tommy Berry.
The five-year-old travelled sweetly under Berry and challenged for the lead coming into the home straight before drawing clear in the final furlong to lead home a 1-2-3 for trainer Tony Cruz.
Ralph Beckett's Chemical Charge, a close fourth behind Highland Reel in the Hong Kong Vase in December, had no such luck this time and finished last of the five runners.
