No champagne on ice for Best in Switzerland
For the second weekend in a row John Best was out of luck with his three runners on the frozen lake at St Moritz in Switzerland.
Berrahri finished fourth to Renny Storm in the 1m1f Grosser Preis Longines, Eddystone Rock was last of seven, while Gung Ho Jack took fifth place behind Holidayend in the 6½f Grosser Preis Christoffel Bau Trophy.
"Berrahri ran really well to finish fourth carrying a huge weight," said Best.
"He's a star, he was carrying 60kg and he wasn't beaten far by a horse rated 100 that was also carrying 60kg, so that was a very good run as he's rated only 74.
"Eddystone Rock ran too badly to be true and we're having him checked out in case we're missing something that's troubling him. Gung Ho Jack ran a bit better than last week so we were reasonably happy with him."
There is another meeting at St Moritz next Sunday – the highlight of the three 'white turf' racedays – and Best added: "Unless we find anything wrong with Eddystone they'll probably all run again next weekend."
