Munich glory for Dettori as Elliptique breaks Fabre's Group 1 duck

Frankie Dettori treated a large Munich crowd to his flying dismount amid thunderous applause on Sunday after winning the Group 1 Grosser Dallmayr-Preis – Germany’s most important middle-distance event – on the Andre Fabre-trained Elliptique.

It was Dettori’s third success in the 1m2f event but a first for Fabre, who supplemented the five-year-old on Wednesday and claimed a first Group 1 of the season in the process.

A late plunge meant Elliptique started favourite at 27-10 and he picked up smartly to hit the front 100 yards out and held on by half a length from Royal Solitaire, with Potemkin and Iquitos third and fourth.
