Mosse in flying form and looking to pick up Dubai rides
Gerald Mosse's year just keeps getting better and, after a highly successful first full season based in Britain, he is now taking Bahrain by storm, riding predominantly for champion trainer Allan Smith.
Mosse partnered 42 winners in Britain and before racing on Friday in Bahrain had added 19 winners from just 31 rides – an incredible 61 per cent strike-rate.
The Frenchman said: "Things are going very well and I'm really enjoying my time in Bahrain.
“I'm riding for the strongest yard, which obviously helps, and we have some nice horses to look forward to throughout the season.”
Smith said: “We're delighted to have Gerald here this season and he has shown every week he's a world-class jockey.
“We race only once a week, on Fridays, so it's a lot different to what he experienced in England throughout the summer.”
The Dubai World Cup Carnival begins on January 3, the day Mosse turns 52, and the rider added: “We don't race on Thursdays in Bahrain, so I'm hoping to get some rides at the carnival.
"Some of the trainers I ride for in England will have runners, as will trainers from Bahrain.
“Hopefully there will be a few spare rides from the locally based trainers as well, and it's great to ride at Meydan, which is such an amazing place.”
Among the trainers Mosse rode for in Britain this year were Ed Dunlop, Ed Walker, David Elsworth, Marco Botti, Robert Cowell, Richard Fahey, Mick Channon and Clive Cox, all of whom could be represented at Meydan over the next three months.
Mosse's major wins this year include the Group 1 Prix de l'Abbaye on the Michael Dods-trained Mabs Cross and a Group 2 double for Elsworth aboard Sir Dancealot in the Lennox and Hungerford Stakes.
