The Group 2 Cape Verdi Stakes produced a nail-biting finish between Nisreen and Magic Lily, with the latter getting up in the final stride to score under James Doyle at Meydan on Thursday.

On an evening of fast times, the Charlie Appleby-trained mare broke the track record, in doing so providing Godolphin with a sixth consecutive win in the race.

Magic Lily was having just her fifth career start – with her sole victory coming on debut – and rallied strongly under pressure down the outside to reward punters who backed her into 13-8 at the off.
