Japanese Arc hope Clincher steps up work regime with Prix Foy fast approaching

Clincher has already made it further than any of his compatriots this year in that he is the only one among five Japanese-trained entries for the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe to reach France this autumn.

On Wednesday, the four-year-old son of Deep Sky had a sharp pipe-opener over five furlongs of Chantilly's Reservoirs sand gallop, as connections gear up towards his Arc prep in the Qatar Prix Foy at Longchamp a week on Sunday.

Sprinting is not really what Clincher is accustomed to, given his career record includes a second in the Japanese St Leger as well as finishing third over two miles in the prestigious Tenno Sho (Spring) on his latest start back at the end of April.
