Janoobi (Mike de Kock/Piere Strydom) gave South Africa’s eight-time champion trainer the 3,000th win of his distinguished career when winning the Gauteng Guineas over a furlong less four weeks ago, and Hamdan Al Maktoum’s colt bids to become the third horse in the last four seasons to complete the Guineas-Classic double.

De Kock’s son and assistant Matthew has voiced reservations, saying: “Janoobi was at his peak that day. He is still doing very well but there is a question mark over the distance and I don’t think that we are going to be able to use him up so much.”
