There is almost nothing in French jump racing that Guillaume Macaire has not won multiple times.

Yet one of the hallmarks of his career has been his constant quest to do things differently, a trait which has led the 14-time champion trainer to join forces with his one-time assistant and rising star of the training ranks Hector de Lageneste.

The pair saddle their first runners as joint licence-holders at Pau on Monday, although it is an idea that has its genesis from the time five years ago when Lageneste was weighing up whether to start out on his own.
