'His will to win is amazing': Joseph O'Brien on cloud nine after Melbourne magic
Joseph O'Brien hailed Melbourne Cup hero Twilight Payment as "an incredible character with an amazing will to win" after the seven-year-old gave the trainer a phenomenal second success in one of the world's most prestigious prizes.
O'Brien, 27, who sent out Rekindling to win the 2017 edition of 'the race that stops a nation', joined Dermot Weld as the most successful Irish trainer in the history of the race, with Twilight Payment winning in the fastest Melbourne Cup time since Media Puzzle in 2002.
O'Brien said the atmosphere at his Owning Hill base was terrific following the 25-1 triumph in the early hours of Tuesday morning, with the leading dual-purpose trainer on cloud nine after delivering once again for owners Nick and Lloyd Williams.
