Gunnevera out to enhance Breeders' Cup claims with Woodward strike
11.47 Saratoga
Woodward Stakes | Saratoga | Grade 1 | dirt | 1m1f | 3yo +
A bumper field of potential Breeders' Cup Classic candidates contest the Woodward Stakes (11.47pm BST, live on At The Races) and the race is headed by Gunnevera (Antonio Sano/Edgard J Zayas), who has succumbed to the prolific Gun Runner twice in his last four starts.
Yoshida (William Mott/Joel Rosario) will be familiar to followers of British racing after finishing fifth in this season's Queen Anne Stakes, and he bids to bounce back to form following a disappointing spin over the course when a beaten favourite on his last start. Connections will be hoping the extra furlong can eke out some improvement.
Paddy Power made Gunnevera – who dead-heated for fifth in last year's Classic – their 7-2 favourite on Friday followed by 4-1 Seeking The Soul and 9-2 Yoshida.
Chasing looks hot
Catherinethegreat (Mark Casse/Jose Ortiz) looks to have solid credentials in the Grade 1 Spinaway Stakes (11.13pm BST, live on ATR), but might have to be a bit special to defeat the Bob Baffert-trained Chasing Yesterday.
The daughter of Tapit looked well above average when accounting for her field by four and a quarter lengths on debut and Mike Smith rides.
Twelve runners are set to line up in this 'win and you're in' race for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies' and Chasing Yesterday is even- money favourite with Paddy Power, who go 7-2 Catherinethegreat.
Brilliance from Hollendorfer filly?
More Juvenile Fillies' candidates lines up in the Grade 1 Debutante Stakes (11.30pm BST, live on ATR) at Del Mar, with impressive debut winner Brill (Jerry Hollendorfer/Drayden Van Dyke) likely to go off the warm favourite.
Bob Baffert has won the race seven times in his career and he's represented by Mother Mother, although Van Dyke appears to have chosen Brill over her.
Santa eyes more Grade 2 glory
The former Charles O'Brien-trained Santa Monica has her third outing for Chad Brown in the Glen Falls Stakes at Del Mar (12.17am Sun BST, live on ATR), and Brown will be hoping the daughter of Mastercraftsman will improve again after a career-best effort last time when winning the Grade 2 Dance Smartly Stakes at Woodbine. The Coolmore-owned filly faces eight rivals.
