German Derby next stop on Dettori world tour as rider aims to turn back clock
Sunday: 2.45 Hamburg

His relationship with John and Thady Gosden may be on ice, but Frankie Dettori's reputation on the global stage remains intact as the latest leg of his world tour takes him to Hamburg for the German Derby – a race he won way back in 1991.
Dettori, who was in action in Turkey last weekend and is due to spend the next two Saturdays in the US, was aboard the Bruno Schutz-trained Temporal 31 years ago and bids to follow up on So Moonstruck, one of seven runners in the race trained by Markus Klug.
Klug, who has won the Classic three times including with his best horse Sea The Moon in 2014, has also secured the services of Hollie Doyle and Richard Kingscote for Wagnis and Mylady respectively.
Klug said: "I have seven starters so I hope one of them will win, but there are 20 in the race, so it will be difficult.
"This is the biggest race in Germany and I think So Moonstruck has the best chance, but the fillies Wagnis and Mylady are also good horses and Ardakan, who won the Italian Derby, and Lavello also have chances."
Ladbrokes and Coral make So Moonstruck their 9-2 favourite from Ardakan, who is 5-1.
The market leader's regular rider Andrasch Starke is suspended, hence the Dettori booking.
"I looked for a very good jockey to replace him and Frankie has won the German Derby before, although it was a long time ago," Klug added. "He's one of the best jockeys in the world so there's no problem there – I just hope the horse is good enough.
" isn't complicated and is easy to ride, but he needs a strong pace. With 20 horses, we should get a good pace. Frankie has never ridden for me before, but we used Christophe Soumillon on Sea The Moon, who is the best I've trained and the sire of So Moonstruck."
Wagnis, Doyle's first ride in the race, is 7-1 with Ladbrokes and Coral, who rate Mylady a 16-1 shot for Kingscote, this year's Derby hero on Desert Crown who finished fifth at Hamburg in the 2011 edition on Brown Panther.
"They are very good riders," said Klug, who also fields Schwarzer Peter and Lotterbov. "The owners wanted top British jockeys, so I'm very happy to have Hollie and Richard. I never rode in races, but So Moonstruck would be the one I'd ride."
