Seldom does a year go by without Clive Cox producing a three-year-old sprinting star and this season it is Caturra's turn to pick up the mantle.

The son of Mehmas was a prolific juvenile, winning three of his seven starts, with the highlight coming in the Group 2 Flying Childers Stakes.

He shoulders a penalty for that success, which is one of the reasons Cox has elected to travel to France instead of target a six-furlong race closer to home.

He said: "He's always pleased us and I was thrilled with his results at the end of last year. We were happy between five and six furlongs but he was very effective at five and France is actually easier for us to get to than Ayr so this is very agreeable."

Suesa won this race 12 months ago before winning the Group 2 King George Stakes at Goodwood and Caturra looks up to a similar standard.

"I'm pleased with the way he's trained," Cox added. "This fella has a wonderful mind, he eats and sleeps. He was lying down the day he won the Flying Childers and we had to get him up to get the bridle on him, that's the sort of character he is so there's no problem going abroad."

Cox won the 2020 Commonwealth Cup with Golden Horde and that is the race which he plans to work back from with his latest project.

Caturra was second in the Listed Roses Stakes at York in August and the winner Attagirl reopposes.

Her trainer Karl Burke is also represented by Guilded, whose best effort last year came when fourth in the Cheveley Park at 100-1, and he said: "They both go there in great form, they're ready to run but they'll tighten up for it. They've both grown."

"Guilded is a good filly and she's really developed well over the winter, while Attagirl was very quick last year but she's by Wootton Bassett so you'd hope she'd stay further."
