Find out how impressed our judges were by Baaeed's latest success
'He will improve for this and is a genuine star'
You know you're dealing with a top-quality horse when it takes a first start in Group 1 company to bring any sort of battle – and it was hardly a ding-dong finish to the Prix du Moulin.
Fireworks were not likely from Baaeed given he was taking a big step up in class and is very much learning on the job, starting out only 90 days ago at Leicester. But he put his head down and galloped strongly to the line, having been fresh early on, and has made giant strides since June.
He will improve for this and is a genuine star – a QEII clash with Palace Pier would be a cracker.

'He probably did only just enough'
I don't think anyone could be blown away by that display, but racing is all about winning and he always looked like he would get the job done.
It was workmanlike rather than impressive and he will need to improve on the bare form to trouble Palace Pier and the others at Ascot, but that looks probable rather than possible. Let's not forget, he didn't race at two and was having only his fifth start.
He looks a straightforward ride, doesn't pull, and quickened well enough when asked.
As with all unbeaten horses, the sky's the limit until they are beaten and it's hard to tell how much Baaeed had left in the tank. He probably did only just enough.
Overall I'd be inclined to take a positive view about the performance.

'I think my money would be going on Baaeed at Ascot'
Baaeed is undoubtedly a classy performer and I'm taking the view there is more to come. Jim Crowley was content to let outsider Novemba burn herself out after setting a fierce tempo, a measure of how much horse he felt he had under him.
This was Baaeed's first start in open company and he saw off a five-strong field that included three previous Group 1 winners.
The official winning margin was just over a length, but it looked pretty comfortable at the line, and I'm not surprised he's vying with Palace Pier for QEII favouritism. If push came to shove, I think my money would be on Baaeed at Ascot.
David Baxter, juvenile judge
