Dwyer hopeful Schiergen link up can produce Oaks success on Skyful Sea
161st Henkel-Preis der Diana - German Oaks(Group 1) | 3yo | fillies | 1m3f
Martin Dwyer is hopeful of reviving a Classic-winning partnership dating back 11 years when climbing aboard Skyful Sea in the German Oaks at Dusseldorf.
The daughter of Sea The Stars is one of two leading chances in the race for Arc winner Peter Schiergen, who also trained Dwyer's 2008 German 1,000 Guineas winner Briseida.
"I won the Guineas for Peter at Dusseldorf and have ridden quite a bit for him, while I think they were keen to use an English jockey and one with experience of the track," said Dwyer.
"His son was over at Goodwood this week and asked me to ride. She looks like she has got a great chance.
"They have Durance [the mount of Andrasch Starke] who is more fancied, but they don't feel there's a lot between them. She's been running in really good races against the colts and is back against her own sex. She'll definitely stay and is a solid performer."
O'Brien duo chase Derby prize
Aidan O'Brien has two contenders lined up for Sunday's Saratoga Invitational Derby (22.48), the middle leg of the New York Racing Association's lucrative Turf Triple Crown.
Mohawk makes his US debut under Wayne Lordan, while Julien Leparoux gets the call aboard Cape Of Good Hope, who has ground to make up with both winner Henley's Joy and third-placed Rockemperor from the opening leg of the series.
"Mohawk has been in good form since winning the Meld Stakes at Leopardstown last month," said O'Brien.
"We think he is progressing and we're hoping for a good run. Cape Of Good Hope, who was fourth in the Prix du Jockey Club, ran eighth in the Belmont Derby last time and seems in good order."
