Chrono Genesis has finished third in two Classics this season but went two places better when winning the third leg of the Fillies' Triple Crown, the Shuka Sho, by two lengths at Kyoto racecourse on Sunday.

Trained by Takashi Saito, Chrono Genesis had performed admirably in the Oka Sho (Japanese 1,000 Guineas) and the Yushun Himba (Japanese Oaks) but finally landed the Classic victory which had previously proved elusive, producing a decisive burst of speed in the straight to cross the line with a comfortable winning margin.

The winner, who won the Daily Hai Queen Cup in February, settled in midfield in the 1m2f Grade 1 and entered the straight tracking favourite Danon Fantasy, who was travelling in front.

Jockey Yuichi Kitamura switched outside to get a run and had far too much for the favourite, who faded into eighth. Curren Bouquetd'Or finished second for trainer Sakae Kunieda, with the Kunihiko Watanabe-trained Shigeru Pink Dia in third.

"I was able to race her in an ideal position while eyeing Danon Fantasy in front," said Kitamura. "She was responding really well at the fourth corner, so I was able to make my bid with confidence.

"I'm grateful for riding the filly since her debut. I'm really glad that I was able to deliver a good result."
