British runners have strong hand in feature on Oaks day in Qatar
Concierge heads two British-trained runners in the Al Rayyan Stakes in Qatar on Friday, but both have a hard act to follow as last year's winner was subsequent 2,000 Guineas runner-up Tip Two Win.
Ten runners are scheduled to go to post for the $100,000 contest at Doha, which is staged on turf over seven furlongs.
Champion apprentice Jason Watson breaks new ground with a first trip to Qatar to renew acquaintance with the George Scott-trained Concierge, who ran out an impressive winner of a 6f conditions contest when last seen at Newcastle in October.
Up 13lb to a mark of 101 after that success over Princes Des Sables, Concierge is top rated in the race, 8lb clear of fellow British runner Don Armado.
Scott said: "Concierge has been a star for us throughout the year, winning three times culminating in an excellent performance at Newcastle, giving weight away to some highly rated rivals.
"I’ve had this race in mind for him throughout the second half of the season as the tight seven furlongs on fast ground will suit him. He's the top-rated horse in the race and with the aid of Jason Watson we'd expect a very competitive run.
"Generously, the Qatar Racing & Equestrian Club are paying for the whole trip and have put up a prize fund of $100,000."
Don Armado, trained by Stuart Williams and ridden by last year's winning jockey David Probert, won 6f nurseries at Nottingham and Goodwood in the summer and was last seen finishing a respectable fifth in the Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury in September.
