Simply the best: Winx wows her crowd on historic day
You have never seen anything like a Winx race – she is a full blown rockstar. She sold out Moonee Valley two weeks early for her fourth Cox Plate spectacular, and the place is absolutely packed with superfans.
Young and old, male or female, racing fans or not, it does not matter – they are here for Winx. The queues for Winx merchandise are double the length of those at the bar for a Winx beer. The unofficial dress code is blue and white and, Chris Waller aside, it is hard to find someone who has not conformed. More than a few have gone further.
Greg Hill, 37, has come dressed as Hugh Bowman. "It's like if you were a Liverpool or Arsenal fan, throw on your jersey, get down there and go nuts," he says, and then does. Warren Jacobs, 73, looks dapper in a blue and white suit, shirt and fedora. It's something he first did for Black Caviar. He says: "I started as a Black Caviar fan and I never thought I'd see anyone out-do her, but here we are, Winx is just as good."
