Amy Murphy's French satellite trial a 'great success' with £180,000 prize-money
Newmarket trainer Amy Murphy has hailed her three-month satellite yard operation in France, which ended on July 1, a huge success but is unsure if the French authorities will allow her to repeat the exercise next year.
The 28-year-old trainer has earned more than £180,000 in prize-money and bonuses at her base near Chantilly from where she sent out eight winners from around 30 runners.
Murphy said: "We brought the last horse back from France last week and the experiment was a great success to say the least.
"Nearly all of the horses we took out there won or were placed and we've already surpassed our prize-money tally for the whole of 2021 on the Flat."
One of the greatest money-spinners was the triple scorer Manhattan Jungle, who landed a Listed Race at Vichy in May worth more than £25,000 to the winner. She has since run in the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Murphy added: "Manhattan Jungle was a real star out there, as was our other two-year-old filly, Havana Angel. She was third in a Group 3 at Chantilly last month and shortly after that we sold her on at Arqana for €320,000."
Taking a yard in France was a natural progression for Murphy, who had successfully targeted races across the Channel, kicking off with her first notable Flat success in 2018 when winning a Listed race at Maisons-Laffitte with two-year-old Happy Odyssey.
France is known for its lucrative system of owners' premiums on top of already generous prize-money, with owners able to increase their winnings by up to 80 per cent for French-bred horses, depending on their age and the type of race they win.
On a possible repeat trip in 2023, Murphy added: "We'll have to see what France Galop allow, but they only let Tom George have a satellite yard for one season, so we'll have to see what happens next year."
