Blazing sunshine interspersed with spectacular electric storms means it is almost impossible to predict how far into the Chantilly turf Mathieu Vincent's penetrometer will sink come Sunday's Qipco Prix du Jockey Club.
The reading was soft (3.7) on Wednesday morning but the Hippodrome des Princes de Conde dries out faster than any other major track in France and so, rather than trying to guess whether the downpours will hit or miss Chantilly, here are the known ground preferences for some of the leading contenders.
