Inspiral's withdrawal opens the door for others in Newmarket Classic

The 2022 Flat season is picking up pace and it is full steam ahead to the first of the Classics – the Qipco 2,000 Guineas and 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket – on April 30 and May 1.

Market movers come thick and fast as the key Classic trials are run in Britain and Ireland, but big-race contenders can come from anywhere and it is easy to miss a potential dark horse. Our Classic Clues series, which runs every morning, has you covered.

Here's a recap of the action on Sunday and how it has impacted the Classic betting, while we mark your card with key names to note on Monday.

Racing round-up: Tenebrism now 1,000 Guineas favourite with Inspiral withdrawn

There was a shake-up in the the Qipco 1,000 Guineas market on Sunday as Inspiral was withdrawn with her connections dissatisfied with her preparation.

The Cheveley Park Stud-owned filly was a major contender for the race, but Tenebrism has now moved to the head of the betting at 5-2.

What they said

George Boughey, trainer of Cachet
I personally think she stays the mile. I think in the Guineas she could take on fillies that stay the mile better who might be ten furlong horses and that might make her look like she doesn’t stay as well but I’d be pretty hopeful she stays the trip. She is a well-balanced filly and she loves it at Newmarket.

Shane Foley, jockey to Discoveries
I think she'll have no problem [with the track] – she's a good mover. She goes everywhere with her ears pricked at home – she keeps it for the track. Physically she's done well and her form from last season is solid.

All eyes on… forfeit and supplementary stages

The week kicks off with the forfeit and supplementary stages for the 2,000 and 1,000 Guineas, which will clarify entries for the first two Classics of the season.

Native Trail leads the market in the 2,000 Guineas on Saturday. The Charlie Appleby-trained three-year-old will be looking to maintain his 100 per cent record and add to his bet365 Craven Stakes victory earlier this month. Coroebus, Vertem Futurity Trophy Stakes winner Luxembourg and Perfect Power are his biggest competitors.

As a result of Inspiral's withdrawal, the supplementary stage for the 1,000 Guineas will be one to make note of. John Gosden told the Racing Post that the focus now will be on the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot and her absence will open the door for others to come forward.

Of those already engaged, Malavath, Discoveries and Tuesday all have strong chances.
