Industry unveils proposals for voluntary advertising restrictions

Live racing coverage will be exempt from voluntary restrictions on betting advertisements during sporting events under proposals by the online betting industry in the face of increased criticism about the links between the sector and sport.

While falling short of the outright pre-watershed ban that some have demanded, the proposals meet the Labour Party's call for a "whistle-to-whistle" ban on betting adverts during sporting events.

It was revealed last week that members of the Remote Gambling Association, which include all the best-known operators in the industry, had met to discuss curbs on advertising.
