'I'm not particularly happy' - Fell given £2,500 fine over Newcastle non-trier
Roger Fell has been given a £2,500 fine, which could rise to £5,000, from the BHA after one of his runners was deemed a non-trier at Newcastle last year.
His runner La Trinidad finished sixth of 11 runners, beaten eight and three-quarter lengths, at Newcastle on October 7 when ridden by Paula Muir.
Fell voices disappointment after 40-day non-trier ban for Newcastle runner
Initially, the stewards on the day banned the horse for 40 days and the matter was referred to the BHA. On April 2, Fell and Muir accepted the breach and were penalised.
Fell received an initial £2,500 fine and a suspended fine of the same amount if he is found in breach of schooling and conditioning on the racecourse again within the next 12 months.
Muir was given a 14-day suspension between April 10 and April 24 and similarly will face an additional ban if found to be in breach of the same rule in the next year.
Her ban comes at a time when racing is suspended but a statement from the BHA's judicial panel states that all suspensions will be "served immediately unless directed otherwise by the chair". There is also the option to defer fines for six months.
Fell said: "I'm not particularly happy with the outcome but it is what it is and it's drawn a line with the situation.
"I thought I gave the jockey adequate instructions but she maybe felt something went wrong in the race. I don't really know, it's a been a bit of a horrible time. For now, we'll just look forward to when we're racing again."
La Trinidad has raced once since Newcastle. The son of Bated Breath finished fifth of six runners at Southwell on January 3.
