Friday was the dawn of a new era for Tom Dascombe, who spoke of unflinching belief in his training talents on the day his lease on the legendary Uplands yard in Lambourn began.

Dascombe, whose first shift back in business might have been ruined when his two German pointer dogs disappeared and were found nine hours later at Henry Candy's, started training in the village in 2005, but was wooed by Michael Owen and Andrew Black four years later and moved to their Manor House Stables in Cheshire.

The switch proved fruitful for all parties and Dascombe established himself as a capable operator who landed his first Classic when flagbearer Brown Panther won the Irish St Leger in 2014.
