'I got my leg over a horse again, the buzz was back' - Winston returns to riding

Former champion apprentice Robert Winston will resume his professional riding career at Chelmsford on Thursday for the first time in nearly two years, having admitted he retired prematurely when originally quitting in 2019.

The 41-year-old has been enjoying a new lease of life since joining Charlie Appleby’s Godolphin operation at Moulton Paddocks in Newmarket last winter and recently signalled a return was near when second in the Leger Legends race at Doncaster this month.

Winston, who resumes at the Essex track with two rides for Tony Carroll, has been granted a riding licence by the BHA and feels he has unfinished business having won over 1,600 races in Britain, including two at Group 1 level, before stopping.
