Honeysuckle camp believe 7lb allowance is not essential for superstar mare
She may not need the mares' allowance, but we'll take it while it's going – that is the message from the Honeysuckle camp as the brilliant Champion Hurdle winner prepares for her latest tilt at history on the opening day of the Cheltenham Festival.
Peter Molony, racing manager to owner Kenny Alexander, believes last year's devastatingly impressive Supreme Novices' Hurdle winner Appreciate It will have to deliver a five-star performance to strip Honeysuckle of her Unibet Champion Hurdle crown on Tuesday, especially considering the 7lb weights differential.
However, the man who expertly sourced Cheltenham Festival favourites Honeysuckle, Telmesomethinggirl and Sir Gerhard remains fearful of Willie Mullins' exceptional knack for preparing horses for the meeting after layoffs.
