Tracker alert: 350,000gns buy is one to note after impressing in debut win

An informative week on all fronts and one that threw up several tracker horses, including a Derby entry who created a good impression, despite greenness, on debut at Haydock on Saturday.

With our expert race readers watching – and writing a descriptive in-running comment for – every horse who runs in Britain and Ireland, there are three different categories used to denote those who are most appealing with the future in mind.

Members' Club Ultimate subscribers can add the names of the horses mentioned to their Racing Post Horse Tracker and will then receive email alerts when they are entered or declared again.

On their next start, the horses will be flagged in Signposts, which can be found in the Racing Post newspaper or online as part of Members' Club on raceday.

Non-members can sign up here to get the tracker, race replays and in-depth race analysis, as well as exclusive content from our team of tipsters and writers.

Did well in the circumstances

Croupier
Fifth, Haydock, September 23

Arrived on the up and would have finished a fair bit closer had he not been hampered when about to start his challenge. He hit the line with running left and is still one to view positively.

Rick Blaine
Fourth, Haydock, September 23

Dropped 3lb since his reappearance, kept on strongly from a long way back. His win for Andrew Balding in 2020 came on testing ground, and he's potentially well treated if he can build on this.

Yanifer
Second, Chester, September 24

Posted out wide in stall ten, ran a big race and his effort can be upgraded given the amount of ground he covered. Rated 6lb higher than when winning two starts back over course and distance in July, he's firmly on the upgrade and has a nice prize in him.

Vallamorey
Sixth, Ripon, September 24

Well beaten in a Newcastle bumper in February on debut, never figured but showed ability on this Flat debut. She should improve in handicaps further down the line.

Secret Road
Fifth, Fairyhouse, September 19

Promising

Kensington
Third, Lingfield, September 20

A daughter of Frankel, stayed on late having run green when first put under pressure, posting a promising first effort. She should improve plenty and will likely find a mile and a half suiting at some stage.

El Oro
Second, Kempton, September 21

A half-brother to two all-weather winners, was the subject of strong support and ran a fine race on his debut. He was keen early on and further back than ideal given the way the race panned out, but he finished strongly, and might have got even closer had he not hung right, likely through greenness, late on. He's capable of winning something similar.

Greatest Time
Second, Newmarket, September 23

Was easy to back on debut, but ran a race rich in promise and gave the winner plenty to think about. He looks a winner waiting to happen and his pedigree suggests he will most likely be suited by this sort of trip.

Small Oasis
First, Curragh, September 24

Had shown a good deal of promise on her debut at Naas and showed the benefit of that here. She initially raced in the far-side bunch and found herself stuck on the outer when the two groups converged, with no cover. However, she showed a smart turn of foot to put distance between herself and a 90-rated runner-up, so that puts her in the potentially exciting bracket. Some ease in the ground is thought to be important.

Salt Bay
First, Haydock, 24th September

A 350,000gns son of Farhh who holds a Derby entry, overcame considerable greenness to make a winning debut, soon recovering from a slow start but taking a false step when asked to challenge over 2f out before drawing away in the last 1f. He can improve plenty from this and is an interesting middle-distance prospect.

Escarpment
Fourth, Newmarket, 23rd September

Stenton Glider
First, Chester, 24th September

Eyecatcher

Dyed In The Wool
Fifth, Redcar, 21st September

Stayed on well after hitting a flat spot at halfway and this was more like the encouragement he showed at Wetherby in May. The colt ought to sharpen up for the run and looks in need of 7f, although perhaps softer going would help.

Blue Universe
Fifth, Kempton, 21st September

A half-brother to two winners including Group 3 2yo scorer Fleur D'Iris, caught the eye on his debut. Drawn widest and dropped in at the back, he got caught behind one who stumbled and he became detached heading into the turn. He was still last with a furlong and a half to run but finished strongly and is one to note. He is well entered up on Thursday.

Regal Honour
Third, Newmarket, 23rd September

By Dubawi and a half-brother to five winners including the high-class Rizeena, cost 625,000gns as a yearling. He was unable to bridge the gap after a rather scruffy start, but ran on strongly late on and will likely be much wiser next time.

Land Of Winter
Fourth, Chester, 24th September

Met with some early interference and found himself too far back when the race developed. Nothing was finishing better, however, and he's one to bear in mind for the remainder of the turf campaign, especially as his last win came on soft ground. He's in the Cesarewitch and he could be a lively outsider.
