Hereford welcomes the chance to shine on Sundays next year

Chelmsford, which had six Sunday meetings in 2016, will not have any next year, but the reopening Hereford yesterday welcomed the opportunity to try to grow the sport on a day that has not always proved popular with racegoers.

Hereford, which closed in 2012 but has been hosting Arab racing, will open its doors again on October 6 and stage a further three fixtures this year.

The Arena Racing Company-owned track has 11 fixtures in 2017 and two of those fall on Sundays.
