Heffernan and Hogan honoured at annual Curragh awards
Seamie Heffernan and Denis Hogan have won the annual Tipperary Crystal-sponsored awards for the leading performances by a rider and trainer at the Curragh during the 2017 season.
The pair came out on top from five nominees in their respective categories following a public vote which was organised for the first time this year.
The awards were presented in Dunne & Crescenzi, L'Officina Restaurant in Kildare Village on Tuesday night.
Heffernan won his award for his ride on Capri in the Irish Derby in July, which was the jockey's third win in the Classic, while Hogan was nominated for his achievements with Tithonus, who landed two major sprint handicaps at the the track – the Rockingham and Scurry.
Aidan O'Brien, Ryan Moore and Sue Magnier won awards for topping the trainer, jockey and owner lists in terms of winners at the track this year.
Special Achievement Awards were presented to Curragh-based trainer Takashi Kodama following the success of Elusive Time in the Irish Cambridgeshire and 17-year-old apprentice Cian MacRedmond, whose first ride in a race was also his first winner when he landed a 5f handicap on Sweetest Taboo in August.
