Newbury goes ahead after inspection but heavy rain puts paid to Plumpton
Heavy overnight rain and the prospect of a further deluge throughout the day has forced officials at Plumpton to cancel today's six-race card.
An 8am inspection had been called yesterday but over an hour before it was due to take place the course confirmed racing would not be possible.
An announcement on Twitter read: "After 14mm of rain yesterday and overnight, and further rain expected this morning, we have no prospects for improvement and so unfortunately have had to abandon today's card. Our apologies for any inconvenience caused."
Plumpton's next scheduled meeting is scheduled for Monday, January 27.
The day's other jumps meeting at Newbury will go ahead after the course passed an inspection this morning. Clerk of the course Keith Ottesen said: "From 11am yesterday to 7am today we've had about 25mm of rain and 11mm the day before.
"There's some standing water in a few places so we'll avoid jumping the cross fence [five out] and the open ditch [three out] in the home straight.
"We'll also miss the middle hurdle in the home straight, we'll just take it out and horses can gallop through. It's good to be racing and fingers crossed it stays dry for the rest of the day."
