Noel Meade's bid for a record-equalling fourth win in the Florida Pearl Novice Chase hinges on ground conditions at Punchestown as he readies the high-class Thedevilscoachman for a crack at Sunday's Grade 2.

JP McManus' promising youngster is 20-1 for the Brown Advisory Novices' Chase at Cheltenham following a smart success at Galway last month in a traditionally hot 2m6½f beginners' chase.

Meade believes soft ground is essential to Thedevilscoachman being at his best – the six-year-old thrived in heavy conditions when winning last season's Grade 2 Boyne Hurdle – and connections are concerned conditions may not be testing enough this weekend.
