Tarboosh
Fourth, York, Saturday

This veteran sprinter was unfortunate not to have defied whopping odds of 40-1 and land an overdue Listed prize at York last weekend.

The seven-year-old got behind early but began to motor home once finding top gear. Some trouble in running lay ahead nearing the business end, though, and he arrived just too late, falling short by three-quarters of a length behind Moss Gill.

Tarboosh loves a bit of dig underfoot and was particularly effective last autumn on soft ground, so this should have set him up for a profitable second half of the season, during which he must be able to break his duck in Listed company.

Jackamundo
Fifth, York, Saturday

Jackamundo was the subject of a gamble in a warm 1m4f handicap but never looked like pulling it off and was beaten more than eight lengths.

However, Declan Carroll's four-year-old would have finished significantly closer had he not got so far behind in the early stages.

He is back down to a workable mark and is evidently reaching peak fitness for his canny trainer, who can certainly find easier assignments in the coming weeks. He isn't one to miss next time out.

Ragstone View
Seventh, Newbury, Sunday

Rod Millman places his horses well and it won't be long before this five-year-old is winning again based on this effort.

Sent off at 80-1, Ragstone View travelled with his usual enthusiasm under Callum Shepherd but met with a wall of horses as the race developed.

He was consistently denied a clear run inside the final two furlongs but made smart headway when he found daylight towards an unfavoured part of the track.

This effort came off 1lb lower than his last winning mark, so it will be interesting to see what the handicapper does and he is definitely one to watch next time.

Seventh, York, Sunday

Kevin Ryan likes to unleash his best juveniles on the Knavesmire and Dexter Belle is no slouch based on this promising debut.

The daughter of Gimcrack winner Ajaya dwelt at the start before recovering and pulling fiercely in the hands of Danny Tudhope, who was unable to get her to settle.

She travelled into the race best along the stands' rail before her early exertions told in the closing stages.

The fact she was only beaten five lengths bodes well and the drop to six furlongs at a track like Goodwood would make her of immediate interest.
