The Investec Derby? Surely not. The Dante Stakes five days later? Possibly.

That would be the immediate reaction to Highest Ground's Haydock win in what was effectively a match, grinding it out with a much-hyped colt with a soft-ground action in Waldkonig just ten days before the Epsom Classic.

The pre-race 25-1 for the Derby made no appeal, and even now he is still streets behind the likes of Kameko, Military March and English King on the bare form.
