Frankie Dettori captains the European team at the Shergar Cup at Ascot on Saturday and has five rides on the bumper eight-race card. Here we assess his mounts for the team competition . . .

Civil Law(1.00 Ascot)

Dettori teams up with Roger Teal for just the eighth time (1-7) in Britain with this five-year-old handicapper in the opening 1m1½f classified stakes.

Civil Law was in good form on the all-weather in the early months of the year but ran below par at Redcar and Kempton most recently.

He is 5lb above his last winning mark of turf and will have to bounce right back to form to be competitive.

Judicial (2.10 Ascot)

This popular veteran is Dettori's mount in the Shergar Cup Dash, having been withdrawn at Chester last weekend due to the ease in the ground.

Judicial, trained by the in-form Julie Camacho, has not run on turf for almost a year but could be a player if improving on his most recent effort at Newcastle.

State Of Bliss (3.20 Ascot)

State Of Bliss is another big-priced ride for Dettori when teaming up with Charlie and Mark Johnston in the Challenge Handicap over 1m4f.

This four-year-old bids for back-to-back Shergar Cup wins, however, having landed the Classic over the same distance under Nicola Currie last year.

He returns off a 2lb higher mark and has viable each-way claims.

Isla Kai (3.55 Ascot)

This handicapper looks Dettori's best chance of getting on the scoresheet in the Mile contest.

The Nigel Tinkler-trained Isla Kai won at this track last year and ran a big race when sixth in the Hunt Cup at the royal meeting in June.

He posted the same Racing Post Rating of 103 when fourth at York last time and has leading claims in this open event.

Sheer Rocks (4.30 Ascot)

The progressive Sheer Rocks is an intriguing contender in the Classic on the back of an eyecatching run at Glorious Goodwood.

Sheer Rocks suffered interference early on but finished to good effect for a never-nearer fourth in a 1m3f handicap eight days ago.

Off the same mark, the Eve Johnson Houghton-trained colt should certainly be a player.
