'He definitely has enough speed' - Irish Champion aim for Grand Prix ace Onesto
Grand Prix de Paris winner Onesto has been confirmed on target for the €1 million Royal Bahrain Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown, with trainer Fabrice Chappet confident he will be just as effective dropping back to 1m2f after last month's breakthrough Group 1 success at Longchamp over 1m4f.
The son of Frankel, who also has the Arc on his agenda, has been given a back-up entry in the Qatar Prix Niel at Longchamp for the following day as a hedge against either transport issues or the possibility of very heavy ground in Ireland.
Chappet, who would be saddling his first runner in Ireland, said: "Onesto won the Grand Prix de Paris quite easily and all has gone well since. The first plan is to go for the Irish Champion, but all being well he could go for the Arc three weeks afterwards.
