Louise Dace suffers broken pelvis in Kempton stableyard accident

Trainer Luke Dace's wife Louise is in hospital after suffering a serious pelvic injury at Kempton on Friday.

A key part of the setup at her husband's Sussex yard, Dace was struck by another horse in the stabling area.

"She is in hospital with a badly broken pelvis and she is in a lot of pain," said Dace on Saturday. "I’m waiting for the specialist to decide if she needs an operation. There are three pieces that have snapped off and the question is how to fix them back on."

The Dace team were at Kempton to saddle Maddi and Sussex Spirit but neither horse was involved in incident.

"It was in the stableyard and she called out and when I got in there she was on the floor in a lot of pain," said Dacre. "She said she was walking around and another horse barrelled out and caught her straight on the pelvis. It is quite tight around that stableyard."

Six to choose from as voting opens for HRI ride of the year

Voting has opened for Horse Racing Ireland's 2018 Ride of the Year Award and the winner will be announced at the annual Horse Racing Ireland Awards in Dublin on Tuesday, December 4.

Ruby Walsh and Johnny Murtagh have chosen six nominees and racing fans can vote through goracing.ie.

Walsh and Murtagh's reasoning behind their shortlist, videos of each nominated ride and the link to the dedicated voting webpage can be found on goracing.ie and all HRI social media channels. Voting will remain open until noon on Sunday, December 2.

The nominations for this new award are jockeys Colin Keane, Derek O’Connor, Kevin Manning, Davy Russell, Danny Sheehy and Paul Townend.

Hayley Moore joins Racing Welfare as new ambassador

Hayley Moore has joined Racing Welfare as a new ambassador with her first outing in the new role being to host the annual Epsom Owners’ and Trainers’ Awards on Saturday.

At The Races presenter Moore joins her brother Ryan as an ambassador for the charity, along with the likes of Racing Post columnists Sam Twiston-Davies and Lee Mottershead.

Moore said: “I know how important the charity is to those living and working in racing. It’s there for people when they need it the most, so I hope to be of some help in their fundraising events and in representing what Racing Welfare stands for.”

The Epsom Owners’ and Trainers’ Awards celebrate the achievements of the training centre throughout the year. The Racing Welfare Lifetime in Racing award will also be presented to Edwin ‘Satch’ Overington, whose career included 26 years as travelling head lad to John Sutcliffe jnr, trainer of dual 2,000 Guineas winner Right Tack.

Matchbook to sponsor Limerick's first Grade 1

Matchbook Betting Exchange are to sponsor the Grade 1 novice chase at Limerick on December 26 for the next two years.

The €100,000 event, which will be run over just short of two and a half miles, will be the first Grade 1 at Limerick and will be televised live by RTE during its coverage of Leopardstown on the same day. Past winners of the race include Sir Des Champs, Gilgamboa, Outlander and Bellshill.

Mark Brosnan, CEO of the Cork-based company, said: “We are delighted to further expand our sponsorship involvement in Ireland with this high-class race. We're thrilled that our contribution to the prize fund brings it up to €100,000."

Atzeni banned for 21 days under totting up rules

Andrea Atzeni was handed a 21-day ban by the disciplinary panel on Thursday after contravening the whip rules on Baydar at Doncaster on the final day of the Flat turf season.

Atzeni, 27, will be suspended from November 30-December 15 inclusive, with seven days deferred until February 15 next year, having used his whip above the permitted level. It was his fifth whip suspension warranting a ban of between two and six days in the last six months.

Atzeni, who is on holiday in Thailand, has ridden 111 winners in Britain this year and enjoyed Group 1 success on Stradivarius, Sheikha Reika and Desert Encounter.

Memorial service for Aldaniti owner Embiricos

A memorial service for Nick Embiricos, owner of 1981 Grand National winner Aldaniti, will be held on Tuesday, December 4 at St Peter Ad Vincula Church, Wisborough Green, Sussex. The service begins at 2.30pm. Family flowers only. Donations, if desired, to the Bob Champion Cancer Trust.

Australian operator purchased by Ladbrokes Coral owner GVC

GVC Holdings, the owner of Ladbrokes Coral, has strengthened its position in Australia with the purchase of fledgling operator Neds International for an initial A$68 million (£37m).

Neds International was only launched in 2017, but is expected to achieve around A$1 billion of wagers by the end of this year.

GVC chief executive Kenny Alexander said: "Neds is an exciting business, with talented people and enables us to further grow market share through two differentiated brands."

Langham retains GBR chairmanship

Tony Langham has been reappointed as chairman of Great British Racing for a further three years, overseeing the organisation tasked with marketing and promoting British horseracing. Langham said: "Racing has to fight hard to grow its share of the leisure market and we're most effective when the industry works together. GBR is a great example of that collaboration in action."
