Harriet Bethell 'making really good progress' and moved to specialist hospital

Harriet Bethell is continuing to progress from the life-threatening head injuries she suffered in a fall in the summer and her recovery has been hailed as "nearly a miracle" by her father.

The trainer has been moved to the specialist rehabilitation hospital in London that treated George Baker and could be allowed home for a spell over Christmas.

William Bethell has taken over the licence at the yard in East Yorkshire since his daughter was put in an induced coma after suffering a bleed in the head in a fall on the gallops in August.

Two and a half months on, he reflected: "It is incredible how she has done, it's nearly a miracle. In the first week or so the consultants had no good news and that was pretty grim really."

Having moved to a local rehabilitation hospital after a month at Hull Royal Infirmary Bethell, 33, is now in a specialist rehabilitation hospital.

William Bethell said: "She has moved down to the Wellington, which is in St John's Wood and probably one of the best hospitals in the country – they fixed George Baker and Jerry Hill, the BHA doctor has a very good relationship with the consultants.

"She is really well, talking well, up on her Zimmer frame and walking a bit. She's making really good progress. She's as happy as she can be but she's frustrated that she is where she is – she doesn't think she's getting better very quickly but in fact the nurses will say she's doing really well.

"We don't know how long she'll be there but the dream is to get her home for Christmas for a week and I hope that is quite possible."
