Guineas heroine Cachet looking 'fantastic' and set next target following break

Cachet, winner of the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket, looks likely to return to the scene of her Classic victory for the Group 1 Kingdom of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes on October 1.

Owned by Highclere Thoroughbred Racing, Cachet sent members of the popular ownership syndicate into raptures when making all the running to land the Guineas in May and connections are hoping a return to Newmarket can spark repeat scenes.

Trained by George Boughey, Cachet has been on her holidays since finishing fifth to Inspiral in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot last month, but has recently returned to training and is being prepared for either the Sun Chariot over a mile or the Group 1 Prix de la Foret over seven furlongs at Longchamp on October 2.

"She's just come back to George having had a holiday at Fittocks Stud and has done so well for the break; she looks absolutely fantastic," said Highclere supremo Harry Herbert.

"Looking ahead there aren't that many options for her and the primary target will probably be the Sun Chariot. We'll look at the Foret but it's on the same weekend.

"She just loves Newmarket and acts so well there, so I suspect the Sun Chariot will be her next race."

Cachet has never finished outside the first three in five runs on Newmarket's Rowley Mile and won the Nell Gwyn Stakes at the track on her reappearance this season before following up in the Guineas.

Ascot proved less to her liking last time when Cachet faded in the closing stages having attempted to make all the running, and Herbert thinks a return to her favourite course can see her bounce back in style.

"She simply didn't stay at Ascot," he said. "That's a very stiff mile on the round track. She had them all off the bridle and then in the last furlong she literally emptied. I think she's one of those fillies who stays a mile at the right track and an easier mile is much more her bag.

"I think George will be keen to stick to Newmarket where it seems she has an advantage, but we'll look at the race in France as well.

"She goes so well fresh this filly and we'd love to get her back. She's done absolutely nothing wrong at all and is a pretty special filly. If she can win another Group 1 this year it would be fantastic."
