Former stars of the turf Grumeti and Glen's Diamond are among 12 retrained racehorses taking part in a parade on the opening day of Doncaster's St Leger meeting on Wednesday.

The parade gives horses an opportunity to showcase their new careers in equestrianism following their retirement from racing – it is just one of nine in the ‘Arc RoR Awareness Days' series which aims to improve the racing public's knowledge of racehorse's second careers.

Relive Grumeti's shock 50-1 Cesarewitch victory

Di Arbuthnot, chief executive of Retraining of Racehorses, said: "All of the horses taking part have been retrained for a successful second career after retiring from racing. Some are well known to racegoers, others less so, but their achievements and contribution post-racing are no less noteworthy.

"We're grateful to Arena Racing Company and Doncaster for their fantastic support and for giving RoR a wonderful platform from which to increase awareness of the work the charity does protecting and promoting the welfare of former racehorses.”

Grumeti, a Grade 1 winner over hurdles at Aintree and winner of the 2015 Cesarewitch, has subsequently begun a career in eventing while 2013 Yorkshire Cup victor Glen's Diamond has competed in the RoR Goffs UK National Championships in both dressage and showing since his retirement.

Chil The Kite, who was a Listed winner in France for Hughie Morrison, and Queen's Vase winner Namibian are also given the opportunity to showcase their careers in dressage.
