1. Newbury outing for Troytown third Magic Of Light

The inaugural running of the Thoroughbred Breeders Association Mares' Chase (2.15) at Newbury was won by Ms Parfois last term and five runners bid to follow in her footsteps this year.

Jessica Harrington saddles a rare runner at Newbury as Troytown Chase third Magic Of Light makes her second outing of the season in what looks a golden opportunity to secure some valuable black type.

The seven-year-old is a standing dish in contests of this kind in Ireland, and Harrington said: "She's not the highest-rated mare in the race but the trip will suit and she's got plenty of experience. It was a hell of a good run from her at Navan on what was her first start of the season."

Her four rivals include Drinks Interval, who looks a progressive mare for Colin Tizzard, Pearl Royale, Molly The Dolly and Two Smokin Barrels.

2. Can Style De Vole shake up Triumph market?

At the same meeting where Buveur D'Air brushed Samcro aside with consummate ease in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle, Nicky Henderson also unearthed another potential gem in Style De Vole, who continues his education in Newbury's juvenile hurdle (12.30).

No juvenile hurdler has truly grabbed the Triumph Hurdle market by the scruff of the neck and Style De Vole rates a 33-1 shot with Sky Bet for that contest, a race his owner JP McManus has won in two of the past three years.

Henderson said: "Style De Vole created a good impression on his debut. He's come on for the run and looks a nice prospect."

3. Playa faces tough task says Halford

Playa Del Puente provided his new owner Huang Kai Wen with an immediate return when landing a maiden in October, just over a month after catching the eye when third on his debut at the Curragh, and Michael Halford is hoping the Elzaam colt can confirm himself a progressive type stepping up to a mile for the first time at Dundalk (6.30).

Playa Del Puente is the only winner in the line-up and therefore has to give weight away all round, a task which will not be easy according to Halford, who also runs the previously unraced Metal Man.

Speaking about the pair, Halford said: "Playa Del Puente has had a nice gap since his last run and he’s strengthened up well. The step up in trip will help him but it’s going to be difficult to give 10lb to Joseph O’Brien’s horse [Grandmaster Flash], who had a promising first run.

“He might have his work cut out to do that but we like him and it looks a good opportunity.

“We also start off Metal Man – a nice colt by Australia – who we like, although he'll improve for the run.”
