Got him! Gemmell relishes the moment as Paisley Park roars back to his best

There won't be many more dramatic finishes in a Grade 1 race this jumps season than at the climax of Ascot's Porsche Long Walk Hurdle on Saturday and, 24 hours on from Paisley Park's epic finishing effort, owner Andrew Gemmell was still high on the buzz of his pride and joy's last-gasp success.

Both the manner of his finishing burst and what had come before made the win all the sweeter for Gemmell, jockey Aidan Coleman and the training team of Emma Lavelle and Barry Fenton. The emotions Paisley Park drew from all concerned were in many ways amplified by an empty Ascot unsaddling enclosure.

Turning for home the eight-year-old's chances seemed to evaporate when Coleman was forced to shuffle back and wide before conjuring a relentless effort from the back of the second last to reel in the leaders and claim his first Grade 1 win since the 2019 Stayers' Hurdle at Cheltenham.
