John Gosden is aiming new recruit Global Giant at the Group 3 Betway Winter Derby at Lingfield next month, and hopes to give the five-year-old a warm-up in the Listed trial at the track on February 1.

He is among three Winter Derby entries for Gosden, who could also be represented by last month's Quebec Stakes scorer Dubai Warrior and runner-up Court House.

The Andrew Balding-trained Bangkok also holds an entry, who won last season's Classic Trial at Sandown before failing to fire in the Investec Derby.

Global Giant was an easy winner at Wolverhampton on his stable debut this month, scoring by three and a half lengths, and will bid to become Gosden's third consecutive winner of the 1m2f trial after victories in the last two years with Utmost and subsequent Winter Derby scorer Wissahickon.

Global Giant was previously trained by Ed Dunlop and has shown an affinity for the all-weather in the past, having landed the Listed Carlingford Stakes at Dundalk in 2018. He was also runner-up in two Group 3 contests that year.

The son of Shamardal experienced a change of ownership over Christmas and is now represented by the colours of Isa Salman from Johnny Hon.

Global Giant is Salman's first horse with Gosden. Among the owner's string are last season's Eternal Stakes scorer Tapisserie, trained by William Haggas.

There was also a first sighting of Frankie Dettori riding work in 2020. He steered Global Giant clear of a decent lead horse on Wednesday morning on the Al Bahathri Polytrack.

Gosden said: "Frankie wanted to come in and have a spin on Global Giant, who we hope to run in the Winter Derby Trial. He's entered in a race in Saudi Arabia beyond that, but it's unlikely he'll get in given the amount of entries so we've opted to stay closer to home."
