Josephine Gordon will compete in the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup for the first time after she was called up as a replacement for the luckless Cathy Gannon.

Apprentice Gordon, who is having an outstanding year in the saddle, became a leading candidate to step in following the withdrawals of Michelle Payne and now Gannon from the original team, plus Sammy Jo Bell, winner 12 months ago of the Alistair Haggis Silver Saddle, also being sidelined by injury.

Organisers waited to see if Gannon, who also missed last year's event because of injury, could return to full fitness from a foot injury in time for the August 6 fixture.
