Juvenile pair shorten in price as punters take on favourite in York sales race
There has been support for a pair of runners in the Goffs UK Harry Beeby Premier Yearling Stakes (2.25), with punters looking to take on early favourite Shouldvebeenaring.
Richard Hannon has won four of the last six runnings of this contest and although Shouldvebeenaring holds obvious claims, punters have latched on to Redemption Time and Dare To Hope.
Redemption Time was last seen finishing down the field in the Norfolk at Royal Ascot, but he shaped better than the bare result and is generally 13-2 (from 11-1) to land the spoils for trainer Clive Cox.
He was a victim of the traffic problems caused by the winner The Ridler – stopped in his run as he was closing for a place – which would suggest he can rate higher than the bare Racing Post Rating of 86 suggests.
Trained by Richard Fahey, Dare To Hope is the other runner who has come in for support and is a general 11-2 chance (from 13-2) off the back of a good second in a course-and-distance nursery last month.
There has also been renewed support for Alpinista in the Darley Yorkshire Oaks (3.35).
Available at 9-4 overnight, the four-time Group 1 winner is now a general 7-4 chance to win her fifth top-level race on the spin.
Dramatised causing concern for bookies
Support has continued to flood in for the Karl Burke-trained Dramatised in the Lowther Stakes (1.50), a result that could define the day for bookmakers and punters.
Available at 11-10 overnight with several firms, the filly is now odds-on with the vast majority of firms and Paddy Power spokesman Paul Binfield is hoping for a shock in the opener.
"I think she [Dramatised] would be our biggest liability – she's very popular with the punters," said Binfield.
"Quite a lot of our day rests on Dramatised, it seems to be her against the field at the moment and if we can get her beaten then we'll have a good day – otherwise it could be an uphill struggle."
Alpinista remains the solid 2-1 favourite for the feature Darley Yorkshire Oaks (3.35), but there has been support against her in the form of La Petite Coco.
Paddy Twomey's progressive four-year-old won the Group 1 Pretty Polly at the Curragh on return and is a general 3-1 (from 7-2) to usurp the favourite.
Binfield said: "She's [La Petite Coco] the only one being backed in the race, they are coming for La Petite Coco to try to take Alpinista on."
Paddy Power market movers
1.50 Dramatised 1-1 (from 11-10)
2.25 Dare To Hope 6-1 (from 13-2)
3.35 La Petite Coco 10-3 (from 7-2)
Conditions unchanged on day two
The going at York remains good, good to firm in places ahead of day two of the Ebor festival.
Speaking just before 8am, raceday clerk of the course Anthea Leigh said: "We've had a dry night, we've got a dry, cloudy and almost overcast morning. The going remains good, good to firm in places at the moment, it has dried a bit from yesterday but it would still be within those parameters."
The course is not expecting any rain during racing on Thursday, but a band of showers is likely to hit the course this evening.
"We're expecting a dry, most cloudy day at around 22C," said Leigh. "We are looking at some potential showers this evening at around 8pm, we don't think there is anything heavy in it at the moment."
The feature race is the Darley Yorkshire Oaks (3.35), which sees four-time Group 1 winner Alpinista take on the Oaks and Irish Oaks winners Tuesday and Magical Lagoon.
There is also French interest in the race, with the Andre Fabre-trained Raclette making the trip over on the back of a successful step up to 1m4f in a Longchamp Group 2 last time.
Leigh said: "It's mouthwatering. We were so lucky to see what we did yesterday with Baaeed, and I'm looking forward to seeing the fillies today. It's first class in terms of quality and competitiveness."
